Mike played his first (paid!) gig in 1964 at the Lass O’Gowrie pub in Manchester, having bought his first pair of long trousers to look cool on the night. He went on to overnight failure by messing up an audition for Opportunity Knocks before being taught how to play bar chords on guitar by Graham Nash. He was nearly ‘discovered’ at university when his blues band was signed up to back American blues men touring the UK. Unfortunately the Muddy Waters tour was rescheduled and the band found themselves backing ‘Big Boy’ Arthur Crudup instead. After a stint playing in an Irish Showband in Manchester, the next phase of Mike’s career took him to Leek, a town well known for having musicians under every pub table and he stills lives and drinks there. Rumour has it that he used to be a headteacher but now he's just a bloke who sings, plays guitar and enjoys life! today Mike plays and sings with:
The Bluesmakers, Well Travelled, Freefall
The 60s Survivors and Jaxhill as well as doing solo gigs
